The Qualification of Applicants:
Chinese citizen and foreigners who qualify for a library card are 14 years of age and older.

Application Procedure:
Applicants need to present identification cards (or PLA cards, passports), hand in one-inch recent photo, fill in ‘an application form for a Shenzhen library card’ with your selected functions, and pay a small corresponding fee to have a library card.

Library Card Functions:
1. Reading function:
A Shenzhen library card allow you to read the past periodicals & newspapers, preserved books, ancient books, micro books, Shenzhen local literatures, HK, Macao & Taiwan literatures; you can also use your card to enjoy video on demand and Internet services, read E-journals and search online databases.

2. Borrowing function of Chinese literature:
Readers can borrow 5 Chinese literatures each time (including Chinese books, Chinese periodicals, digital video & audio materials, braille books and braille books are not more than 2 items)

3. Borrowing function of foreign language books:
Each library card can borrow one foreign language book.

4. Function of exchanged circulation through Shenzhen public libraries network:
Besides the reading function in the Shenzhen Library, each card can borrow 2 Chinese books from the agreed libraries of Shenzhen public libraries network （the precondition of applying this function: already opened the borrowing function of Chinese books）

5. Function of prepayment:
Readers can save an amount of cash in their cards in advance as they want. (Payment can be 10, 20, 50, 100 Yuan.) This will be convenient for balancing the service fees such as tardiness penalty fee, damage / loss compensation fee, and printing fee.

Registration way:
The library carries out a registration system that readers register cards once two years, a two-year expiration date is starting at the date of applying the card. You can register at the general service desk after filling in ‘the application form for a Shenzhen library card’. The card will not be able to be used after a two-year expiration date without registration on time unless you succeed in registering again.

Lost, Replacement and Withdrawal of Library Cards:
1. If your library card is lost, should call 82841200～03 at once or log in “my library” on the Shenzhen library website to report the loss of your card. Otherwise, readers need to take their compensation and other responsibility for the loss caused by no report or the subtenancy of their cards.

2. After report the loss, you need to bring your identification cards (or PLA cards, passports), and pay a small fee for replacing a new card.

3. When you withdraw your library card, please return all borrowed materials and pay off all arrearage (including the books and arrearage in exchanged circulation system in Shenzhen), bring your library reader card, ID card and deposit receipt to refund your deposit.

Special Treatments for Senior Citizen and Handicapped:
All age 60 or older senior citizen and handicapped can handle all kinds of card affairs preferentially.

(The library closes on Monday, the arrangement of Chinese public holidays will be further announced.)

Location:General Information Desk in the Shenzhen library hall.

P.S. Library Card Replacement:
1. If you want to replay your old library cards by new ones, please return all borrowed materials and pay off all arrearage (including the books and arrearage in exchanged circulation system in Shenzhen), bring your old library card, the original deposit receipt and id card to the general information desk.

2. The original deposit can be transferred to the new card and keep on being used.
