深圳市读书月活动每年11月举办，迄今已举办10届，是在中国首创且产生广泛影响的大型读书活动，其核心内容为普及公众阅读。为进一步宣传公共图书馆理念，推广公共图书馆服务，深圳图书馆定于2009年读书月期间举办“公共图书馆国际高峰论坛（2009，深圳）”，广邀海内外专家学者，指导评议深圳图书馆和深圳市读书月的工作，探讨公共图书馆在促进公众阅读、促进地区经济发展中的作用，共议城市公共图书馆合作发展大计。
        论坛设以下主题：
        1、公共图书馆的国际交流与合作；
        2、国际合作下的全球数字图书馆发展演变及诉求；
        3、数字时代公共图书馆核心竞争力重构；
        4、高新技术与公共图书馆；
        5、公共图书馆服务体系的成功案例——地区经验。

The International Summit on Public Libraries will be held on November 16-20, 2009 at Shenzhen Library in Shenzhen, China. The holding of the Summit coincides with the 2009 “Citizens Reading Month” activities in Shenzhen with the goal to promote reading and exchange reading experience. The purpose of the Summit is to learn from international library experts their experience about the successful experiences of public libraries in enriching lives, lifelong learning and culture development.
